The resolution passed 6-4. Two people abstained. The author of the resolution was Matthew Guevara. Some of the wording went like this.
“The American Flag has been flown in instances of colonialism and imperialism. Flags not only serve as symbols of patriotism or weapons for nationalism, but also construct cultural mythologies and narratives that in turn charge nationalistic sentiments.”
Reading this I set back and wonder what has happen to my country when students do not want to look at the American flag. Do they really know what the Stars and Stripes represent? Do they know how many men and women died to keep us free from tyranny? What men and women give up for this country? And do I even dare to say the flag represents One Nation under GOD? This is one thing the socialist groups could not understand about America and what the American flag represents. It represents freedom to be what you want to become in life. You don’t get this from government handouts. Have the ability to become wealthy or lead a modest life, to purchase your own land and bring forth a harvest from your own blood and sweet, and be proud of the fruits of your labor.
I myself have an advantage on American patriotism. In 3rd grade I had a teacher Miss Narran who taught her class the American hero’s, the founding Mothers and Fathers. What they did, how they did it and what they give up for America. From Ben Franklin, Nathan Hale to Patrick Henry. It stays with me today some 50 years later. This is something our children are not being taught in the classroom today. They don’t pledge allegiance to the flag or start the day singing GOD bless America or America the Beautiful. We live in a time were NBC blanks out the sound One Nation under GOD when children saying the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
So do we get angry at Matthew Guevara who could be around 20 years old? Or do we get on ourselves for standing by and letting socialist policies get indoctrinated in our classrooms, elect officials into office that do not stand up for American exceptionalism.
We must play an active part in our children and in our grand children's education of our proud American heritage. Teach them to honor our forefathers, our men and women who serve in the armed services. I believe GOD has set us apart among nations to be a beacon of hope to the world and the protector against tyranny.
So I stand here today and say thank you my 3rd grade teacher Miss Narran for teaching me about my American forefathers and my American Heritage. To my Mother and Father in teaching me to be a hard worker and to do the best you can in whatever you do. And to have faith in GOD to live my life the way he would have me to. To try to be the light in a darken world.
